Somebody to Care

That's what life is all about. Caring for others as you would care for your own family. The only thing is, most of GSI's clients have no family involved in their lives. They have GSI.

Guardianship Program

Typical guardianship clients are vulnerable to abuse or self-neglect and experience impaired judgment. GSI is appointed legal guardian by the Tarrant County Probate Courts when there is no appropriate or willing family member or friend to serve in this capacity.

Money Management Program

GSI provides this less restrictive alternative for clients who, per medical evidence provided by a physician, are not capable of managing their finances in their own best interest. Clients consent to be a part of this program and permit GSI to serve at their Representative Payee. This usually enables them to remain independent and in their own homes.

Guardianship Services, Inc.

The Mission of Guardianship Services, Inc. (GSI) is to provide guardianship or less-restrictive alternatives to guardianship for vulnerable adults in Tarrant County.

The Money Management Program is a less restrictive alternative to guardianship. This program’s case managers and volunteers monitor the financial affairs of the clients, at times even serving as Representative Payee, making sure that all limited resources are strictly utilized for their benefit. Clients voluntarily participate in this program and share in the decision-making process.

Through GSI’s Guardianship Program, the case managers and volunteers obtain community services, medical treatments, housing, and benefits, thus enabling these clients to function as normally as possible, considering their limitations. The Tarrant County Probate Courts have removed the decision-making rights of these individuals and given GSI the authority to make all decisions on their behalf. The Guardianship Program serves as a last resort. All other alternatives have been explored. The agency’s involvement takes a client from a world of loneliness, despair, illness and exploitation, to a world of hope.

GSI’s goal is to provide clients with as much autonomy as possible while protecting them from mistreatment or neglect. This is a delicate balancing act.
