Eligibility: Clients of the Money Management Education Program are adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. Either someone else is serving as their Payee or they are in danger of financial exploitation. They must be referred by Tarrant County Mental Health Mental Retardation or clients of The Arc of Greater Tarrant County .

Service Description: GSI’s Money Management Educator visits with the client either in the client’s home or at the ARC offices to assess the potential client’s ability to learn money management skills and establish goals. Some clients receive one-on-one training; others are taught in a classroom setting. As the client learns new skills, he or she is encouraged to take more responsibility for managing personal finances. The goal is to teach skills that will enable the client to avoid financial exploitation and function as independently as possible. When the client has completed all course work, he or she is paired with a volunteer who visits regularly to assist with any new problems or challenges that may arise.

Accountability: The Money Management Educator works closely with the MHMR Service Coordinator and submits monthly reports describing the client’s progress. Volunteers who are matched with clients submit monthly reports of activities and client status.
